J&K Governor, CM mourn death of freedom fighter

Srinagar, Sep 17 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have expressed deep grief over the passing away of Sardar Sant Singh Teigh, a veteran freedom fighter.

In a message, the Governor said that Teigh, 101, was one of the few living and legendary freedom fighters who contributed a lot towards the well-being of the people.

During his chequered political career, Mr Teigh strove for right place for the downtrodden and weaker sections in the society, he said, adding that his contribution towards the state would be remembered for ever.

The Governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to late Teigh and said he was the vanguard of the struggle against autocracy in Jammu and Kashmir.

His contribution to political and social life was noteworthy.

He said throughout his life, the late leader remained in touch with people and worked for the upliftment of the weaker and downtrodden sections of the society.

The Chief Minster conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Mr Teigh died at Jammu yesterday.
