Haryana House pays tributes to Chandra Shekhar

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (UNI) The Haryana assembly paid tributes to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, former Haryana chief minister Banarsi Dass Gupta and ex-Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma among others on the opening day of its three-day session here today.

Making the obituary references, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Chandra Shekhar was a fearless crusader with an abiding commitment to the tenets of democracy. ''He was an embodiment of honesty, simplicity and humanism. He was a truly secular nationalist and a man of the masses.'' INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala said Chandra Shekhar was a man of strong resolve and he stuck to his decisions and implemented them with determination as he was convinced of their propriety.

Besides Chandra Shekhar, Banarsi Dass Gupta and Sahib Singh Verma, the House also paid tributes to former Haryana assembly members Faqir Chand Agarwal and Kundan Lal and several freedom fighters and martyrs who died after the last session of the assembly.

Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta, Congress member Phool Chand Mullana and BJP member Ram Kumar Gautam also spoke on obituary resolutions besides Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian.

Earlier as the House assembled, Mr Hooda introduced two new members of his cabinet--Education and Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta and Urban Local Bodies and Technical Education Minister A C Chaudhari.
