Kolhapur, Sep 17 (UNI) The officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today held a Class II official of the registrar's office for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 here.

The accused has been identified as Raosaheb Abasaheb Vasagadekar.

ACB sources said one Balasaheb Krishna Mali, an office-bearer of the R K Nagar Housing Society in the city's suburb, had distributed gift vouchers to the society members after it made a surplus, which was objected by the society's former office-bearer one Mr Yadav.

Mr Yadav then lodged a complaint against Mr Mali with the Assistant Registrar Co-operative Association's office, charging that Mr Mali had distributed the gift vouchers without a prior permission from the Registrar, sources said.

Acting on the complaint, Mr Vasagadekar sent a notice to Mr Mali and warned of an action against him and the society.

In this connection, Mr Mali met Mr Vasagadekar, who demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to withdraw the case, however, the matter was settled for Rs 15,000. Subsequently, Mr Mali informed the ACB about the epsiode.

As per the plan, the ACB officials caught Vasagadekar red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from Mr Mali in the society premises, sources added.
