Centre will establish IIIT for design, manufacturing: CM

Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) The Centre will establish an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) for design and manufacturing near here to strengthen the human resources of the State, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today.

Inaugurating Connect-2007, an ICT conference jointly organised by the CII and the State Government here, he said his Government was acutely conscious that the HRD of the State should be further strengthened.

As part of this, the Centre, under his initiative, would set up IIIT, he said, and added that the state had also requested the setting up of an additional IIT at Madurai, IISER at Trichy and IIM at Coimbatore to shore up the Government's efforts to strengthen the technical education system in the state.

He said establishment of an ICT academy and Finishing School were among several initiatives in the pipeline to improve skill development, which was one of the priority area of the Government.

In this context, the Chief Minister said CII could play a leading role in setting up training institutes in different parts of the State, in collaboration with large industrial houses to improve the skill of technically qualified youth.

''Training is the necessary input to improve the skill and CII could play an active role in this regard'', he said.
