BMW case lawyer wants judge changed on grounds of bias

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Senior lawyer R K Anand of the BMW-hit and run case today pleaded the Delhi High Court to change the judge hearing the case, saying he may have some personal bias against him.

Contempt proceedings are going on in the Delhi High Court against Mr Anand for influencing the witness in the case. Quoting several reasons for the judge to recuse himself from hearing his case, Mr Anand said Justice Manmohan Sarin and he had been on the opposite sides in many cases, when Justice Sarin was a lawyer.

Justice Sarin will respond to Mr Anand's application on September 19.

During a sting conducted by a TV channel, Mr Anand along with another senior lawyer and prosecution lawyer I U Khan were shown allegedly conniving with the witness, Sunil Kulkarni to favour the accused Sanjeev Nanda in the BMW-hit and run case.

A bench headed by Justice Sarin has framed charges against Mr Anand and Mr Khan and contempt proceedings against them are going on in the case.

Uday U Lalit, lawyer for Mr Anand, had filed an application in the court today for the judge to refrain himself from hearing the case.
