Andaman to get Engineering College soon

Port Blair, Sep 17 (UNI) The remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon have an Engineering College of its own.

''This is proposed to be done by upgrading the existing Dr BR Ambedkar Government Poly-technique of Port Blair into an Engineering College,'' Chief Secretary C Targey told reporters here recently.

Since last many years, the Islanders had been demanding setting up of an Engineering and Medical College for the students, who have to go to Mainland India for these studies.

The poly-technique offers courses in diploma in engineering, which people believe is not sufficient.

''The Poly-Technique has been instrumental in opening examination centre for engineering degree examination in these Islands which has immensely benefited the islands' aspirants,'' Targey said.
