45-year-old woman dies of suspected cholera

Tiruvallur, Sep 17 (UNI) A 45-year-old woman died of suspected cholera and eight people were hospitalised in Aravanvayilkuppam village in this district of Tamil Nadu.

The district administration, however, denied there was break out of cholera in the village.

After undergoing treatment for diarrhoea at the district Government Hospital, Murugambal (45) returned home yesterday and died last night.

As eight other people were admitted to hospital following complaints of diarrhoea, there was fear among the villagers that there could be break out of cholera.

While the district administration denied they were affected by cholera, one version was that the victims became sick after consuming contaminated water.

The ground water became polluted following effluents let out into the Kosasthalaiar river from a distillery and chemical factory near the village.
