Vadodara, Sep 17 (UNI) Police today rounded up about 250 city Congress leaders and workers for staging a black flag demonstration near Harni airport, an hour before Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Vadodara.

Sensing trouble, police which had made elaborate security bandobast in and around the airport, stopped the agitating Congressmen at Manikpark chowk, about 200 yards from the airport, and took them into custody as they tried to break the police cordon.

The party workers, led by city Congress president Suresh Patel, were staging the demonstration protesting against inauguration of various developmental projects funded under the Centre's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for Vadodara without giving any credit to the UPA Government.

''The chief minister is sceduled to inaugurate three such JNNURM-funded projects worth Rs 48 crore in the city this evening, but nowhere the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) authorities had mentioned that they were Centrally-sponsored JNNURM projects,'' Mr Patel said and alleged that the BJP government which was now on project inauguration spree across the state to woo the voters, had misled the people on the issue.
