Bhubaneswar, Sep16: In one of the most gruesome and shocking incidents, two minor children were sacrificed in Benas villages under Raighar Police station of Nabarangpur district by a tribe to propitiate the Goddess to ward off his miseries.

Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Sahu told the sources over phone that one Sundarsingh Gand alias Poti of Haladi Sirapada hamlet sacrificed Guddu Ganda(5) and Dablew Ganda (4) after one of his sons died of fever about a fortnight back.

Mr Sahu said Sundar Singh had been arrested under section 364 for kidnapping and murder, 302 for murder and 201 for destruction of evidence. The cases were registered against the tribe after he confessed to have committed the crime. Police also seized an axe used for the murder and the blood stained clothes.

Both the children were seen playing near their homes on Tuesday evening. The parents of Guddu and Dablew lodged a missing report with the Police on Wednesday last after they failed to trace their sons on Tuesday.

On the next day, the villagers informed the police on spotting bodies of two headless children inside the jungle between Benas and Kawadbari village. Later, police reached the spot and found the chopped heads packed up in clothes some distances away from where the beheaded bodies were spotted.

Police said the accused performed the puja in the jungle before he sacrificed the children and offered their hearts to the Goddess to ward off his misfortune.
