Haryana to celebrate Bhagat Singh's 100th B'day

Chandigarh, Sep16: The Haryana Government has decided to celebrate the 100th birthday of the great hero of the Indian struggle for freedom , Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on September 28 throughout the state. While informing this here today, an official spokesman said that the 100th birthday of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh would be celebrated throughout the state in a befitting manner by organising public meetings, public functions, seminars and symposia projecting patriotic and nationalistic spirit.

He said that songs, poems and skits based on life and works of patriots like Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and his associates Raj Guru and Sukhdev would be recited and staged in these functions, which would go a long way in inspiring the youth of the State to serve their motherland.

The spokesman said that blood donation camps would be organised in different schools, colleges and universities of the state. The members of martyrs' families and winners of gallantry awards would be honoured on this occasion.

He said that a number of welfare schemes for the freedom fighters, serving military personnel and ex-servicemen were being implemented in the state and full honour is being accorded to them in various civic functions. They are being given monthly pensions, reservation in government services, reservation of plots in Municipal Committees and Trusts etc, he added.
