In his message on Hindi Divas celebrations at the Kashmir university, Prof Qureshi said, ''Languages are medium of communication and means of acquiring knowledge.'' He said all languages are important, however, in the context of a vast country like India where scores of languages are spoken, Hindi occupies a pride place because of the fact that it is spoken and understood by a vast majority of the population.
He expressed happiness and satisfaction the way the Kashmir University has played a purposeful role in popularizing the language.
''The department of Hindi in the university is doing well as now many students are enthusiastic to learn this language at the post graduate level,'' he said.
''I am also happy that from last year, Hindi has been included as a section now in the prestigious student magazine 'Gulala' of Kashmir University after Urdu, English and Kashmiri,'' Prof Qureshi said A good number of Muslim students have been enrolled in Hindi department this year at PG level, Prof Zohra Afzal head of the Hindi department said.
