Coastal clean-up campaign in Pondy

Puducherry, Sep 16 (UNI) Puducherry Education Minister M O H F Shajahan today inaugurated a coastal clean-up campaign at Ganapathichettikkulam fishermen hamlet to mark the International Coastal Clean-up Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shajahan stressed the need of privatising garbage cleaning works in Puducherry as municipality alone could not take up the task.

The campaign, jointly organised by Department of Science and Technology, Enviornment and Local Administration, along with Indian Coast Guard, was carried out in the coastal stretches of Karaikal and Mahe regions also.

Students from NSS and Department of Ecology and Enviornmental Science in the Pondicherry University, Local Administration Department staffs, NGOs and public took part in the campaign.
