Thane police chief urges 'mandals' to exercise caution

Thane, Maharashtra, Sep 15 (UNI) Thane police commissioner D Shivanandan has urged Sarvajanik Ganesh ''mandals'' to exercise caution and install CCTVs and also make use of hand-held metal detectors during the Ganesh Festival.

Mr Shivanandan said around 700 police personnel would be deployed to oversee security during the festival.

Meanwhile, Thane municipal commissioner Nandakumar Jantre informed about the preparations made for the immersion of Ganesh idols in the city.

Mr Jantre admitted that the civic body could not fill up all the pot-holes in the city but said the roads would be surgafecd for the smooth passage of immersion processions.

Hundreds of kilometres of roads have to be concretised and, hence, the major work was not being undertaken now, he said while adding that since a multi-crore undergroud drainage system for the city was on the cards, no digging work would be undertaken now.
