Lord Ganesh arrives for 10-day sojourn

Nashik, Sep 15 (UNI) Lord Ganesha, the lord of knowledge, arrived in the city for his ten day sojourn in various households and mandals amidst celebrations, as the Ganeshotsav began today.

Preparations for the arrival of the deity were on in every corner of the city since long. All the streets and markets have been crowded with people, shopping for the festival. Many people had booked Ganesh idols for their households and for the Mandals in advance to celebrate the Ganeshotsav in a big way.

The Ganesh idol is being brought in almost every house with great religious fervour and gaiety. The air of the city has been filled with drum beats and slogans such as 'Ganpati Bappa Morya'. People have made preparations to offer the Modak Ladu as 'Naivedya' to the Ganesh idols. All the houses have been decorated to welcome the deity.

Besides, household Ganeshas there are as many as 850 Ganesh Mandals in the city, whereas 1,600 Mandals are celebrating the festival in rural areas.

Police is maintaining a strict vigil to avoid any untoward incident during the festivities.
