water.
Last night's rain coupled with the Brahmaputra river flowing over its embankments challenged almost the entire discharge capacity of the city drainage system with river Bharalu adding to the already difficult situation.
More areas have now come under water with the flood water building up and the city's drainage system unable to tackle the situation. The pump houses of Bharalu are working round the clock but the water level is too high, officials said here.
The district authorities have deployed additional pumps to pump the water out of the city as the level of the river Brahmaputra was now flowing higher than the city's drainage capacity.
Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded while many were unable to reach their destinations since morning. The worst-affected areas were Chandmari and RGB Barua road where vehicular traffic have come to a standstill.
