Tapasi case: CBI chargesheets 2 accused

Chandernagore, W Bengal, Sep 15: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today chargesheeted CPI(M) leader Suhrid Baran Dutta and party activist Debu Malik in connection with the murder of Tapasi Malik at Singur.

CBI investigation officer Parthasarathy Basu submitted the charge sheet in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pradip Bandopadhyay here.

While Malik appeared in the court, Dutta was absent because of illness.

Dutta, former Zonal Committee Secretary of the CPI(M) was, arrested by CBI after interrogation at its Salt Lake office on June 28, few days after the arrest of Malik.

The charred body of the 18-year-old Tapasi, a member of the Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, spearheading anti-land acquisition movement in Singur, was found inside the fenced site of Tata Motors's small car project at Singur in December last year.

A forensic probe later confirmed that she was murdered.
