Alert police foils bank robbery attempt

Muzaffarpur, Sep 15 (UNI) The district police has foiled a bank robbery attempt and arrested five dreaded gansters besides recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Acting on a tip-off that the heavily armed gang members had assembled at the Motipur area of the town in a bid to rob a local branch of the Punjab National Bank, a special team of the district police rushed to the spot and caught the gang members by surprise, District Superintendent of Police Sanjay Ratan here today said.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition, including a rifle, five pistols, four carbines, several rounds of ammunition and two daggers were recovered from the gang members, the SP said, adding that a motorcycle and a van used by the robbers were had also been seized.

Later, following interrogation, it was revealed that the gang was also involved in an arms selling racket in some of the North Bihar district's bordering Nepal, Mr Ratan said adding that further investigation was on.
