Chennai, Sep 15 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Thammampatti village in Salem district of Tamil Nadu when about 200 Muslims resorted to a road blockade, objecting to the installation of an idol of Lord Ganesh in the vicinity of a mosque.

Reports received at the police headquarters here said a group of Hindu people had installed a giant idol of the elephant-headed God on the occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi, about 80 metres away from the mosque.

A group of Muslims took exception to it, stating that it was installed opposite the mosque's entrance and demanded that it be shifted. They resorted to the road blockade to press their demand, leading to tension in the area.

Police and Revenue officials were holding talks to resolve the issue amicably.
