Recruitment scam probe committee chief given Z category security

Lucknow, Sep 13 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today provided Z category security to UP Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Special Task Force (STF) Shailja Kant Mishra, who headed the high-powered committee probing the police recruitment scam.

The security cover was provided in apprehension of threat to the senior IPS officer, sources said here tonight.

On Tuesday, the state government had suspended 12 senior Indian Police Services (IPS) officers for their alleged involvement in the recruitment scam, that happened during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.

Of the suspended officials, there were two IGs, eight DIGs and two SPs.

Besides, the state government had also anulled 14 recruitment boards, on which had recruited a total of 6,504 civil police and PAC constables.

Altogether over 22,000 policemen were recruited during the previous regime and several irregularities were detected in the probe conducted by the present BSP government, after it came to power in May last.
