One more held in Gohana murder case

Sonepat, Sep 13 (UNI) The Haryana Police has arrested one more accused in connection with the murder of dalit youth Rakesh alias Lara in Gohana which had triggered statewide protests last month.

Sonepat Superintendent of Police (SP) Navdeep Singh Virk today said Ram Niwas, a resident of Busana village, had been arrested near Gohana yesterday. The police had earlier arrested three accused in the case.

He said Ram Niwas, who was a business partner of another accused Dinesh, had confessed his involvement in Lara's murder.

The SP said the CBI was expected to take over the probe into the Lara murder case in a couple of days. While the Haryana government had already requested the CBI to take up the case, a directive from the Centre in this regard was expected soon.

Meanwhile, the proposed Jat Mahapanchayat scheduled to be held at Mehmoodpur on September 16 had been deferred during a meeting of pradhans of various 'Khaps' today.

The proposed Mahapanchayat had created a scare among the dalit residents of Gohana and fearing casteist attacks, several families were reported to have fled the town to take refuge in a Balmiki temple in Delhi.
