Notices issued on habeas corpus petition
Madurai, Sep 13 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today issued notices to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, Commandant of sixth Battalion of the Armed Reserve (AR) Police and Periyakulam North Inspector in a habeas corpus petition filed by the father of a missing AR Constable.
Admitting the petition, Justices S R Singaravelu and T Suthanthiram issued the notices, returnable by two weeks.
Praying the court to direct the police to produce his 30-year-old son K Balamurugan, Mr K Nagarathinam submitted that his son might have suffered serious injuries in an attack by Maoist insurgents or abducted while on duty at Kumbakarai in Theni district of Tamil Nadu.
A telephone call from the Kumbakarai AR Police Camp had informed him on September ten that Balamurugan had proceeded on a five-day leave from September three and not returned. Balamurugan was deputed for combing operations after Maoists were sighted in Theni district.
The petitioner had approached the court after all efforts to trace hisson failed. He had even sent a telegram to Periyakulam North Police Station Inspector, seeking his help, but to no avail.
