Jaya urges Centre to implement SSCP without razing 'Ramsethu'

Chennai, Sep 13 (UNI) AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today urged the Centre to implement the Sethusamudram Shipping canal Project (SSCP) without demolishing the 'Ramsethu'.

In a statement here, she said the Centre should implement the project by choosing an alternative design in stead of demolishing the bridge.

Asserting that the AIADMK was for the SSCP without damaging the 'Ramsethu', she criticised Union Shipping Minister T R Baalu for going ahead with the project without considering the opposition expressed by the people.

''When there are about five to six alternate proposals, where is the need to demolish the 'Ramsethu' to pave way for the project'', she asked.

She alleged that Mr Baalu and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi were hell bent on implementing the project as they have struck a deal with the contractors.
