Heavy rains claims two lives in Bangalore city

Bangalore, Sep 13 (UNI) Two persons, including a woman, were killed and several others were injured rain related incidents due to heavy rains that lashed the city last night.

According to a City Corporation official, a mother and her son were killed when roof of their house caved in at Maruthi Extension in the Southern part of the city. They were identified as Munilakshmamma (45) and her 23-year-old son Ishwar.

Storm water entered into scores of houses in low lying areas in different parts of the city resulting in displacement of hundreds of people amidst the thundering rains.

Vehicular traffic was thrown out of gear for nearly four hours as many roads were inundated causing disruption of traffic. Buses belonging to Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation were seen stranded on some roads due to water logging. Fire tenders also summoned to rescue commuters who were trapped in the buses in many parts of the city, the official said.

The Corporation paid a compensation of Rs 50,000 as solatium and Rs 5000 for funeral each to the kin of the mother and son killed in the roof collapse, the official added.
