Girl lured and raped on pretext of job in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 13 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested a person who had lured a girl by promising her a government job and then allegedly raped her.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Handwara Dr Haseeb Mughal said they received a complaint from Shanu Akhter, a resident of Dangerpora, Kakapora in Pulwama district, that on August 10 she was lured by her neighbour, Ghulam Hassan Dar, by promising her a government job.

The girl alleged that she along with her sister were taken to Handwara in Kupwara district by the accused, an employee of the Animal Husbandry Department who made them stay there for the night and then seduced her under compulsion, he added.

In the morning, Dr Mughal said the girl managed to escape and lodged a complaint with the police on which a case was registered and investigations initiated.

During investigations, the police conducted multiple raids and the accused was nabbed at Langate. On sustained questioning, Dar confessed to the crime.
