Puducherry, Sep 13 (UNI) Traffic on the east coast road was affected for over an hour today as the fishermen of Chinnamudaliarchavadikuppam in Villuppuram district of Tamil Nadu resorted to a 'road roko' in their village to press their demands.

The fishermen with their families blocked the road protesting the failure of the government to provide a protective wall on the coastal lines of their village.

They protested that in spite of giving representations several times to Villuppuram District collector and Tahsildar,no action was taken to prevent sea erosion.

Last night also three houses collapsed and they lost two boats due to sea erosion. They had also spent a sleepless night yesterday due to Tsunami alert.

They charged the Thanthrayankuppam village with only 100 families, was provided with a wall and boulders dumped to prevent sea erosion while their village with 800 families was totally neglected.

Vanur Tahsildar Annadurai rushed to the spot and held talks with the fishermen assuring them that necessary steps would be taken in a month, following which they called off their agitation.
