Chhattisgarh HC reverses ruling on lake

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Sep 13 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh High Court today reversed its Tuesday ruling to fill up the ancient Mama Bhanja Lake here and instead decreed that the reservoir be beautified by the municipal corporation.

Acting Chief Justice Jagdish Bhalla and Justice Dileep Raosaheb Deshmukh heard a revision plea in which the state government submitted that the Constitution's Article 51(a) enshrined a provision whereby conserving ancient water sources was the state's responsibility.

The bench also issued a notice to lake owner Godavari asking her to show cause why the lake should not be forfeited.
