Bunny Reuben's daughter speaks out in favour of Rishi Kapoor
Mumbai, Sep 13 (UNI) Late publicist of Raj Kapoor Films Bunny Reuben's daughter Lakshmi Reuben Gopali spoke out in favour of actor Rishi Kapoor's condemnation of yesteryear actor Vyjantimala Bali's claims dismissing her affair with RK as publicity stump.
Earlier, actor Rishi Kapoor in an interview with an English tabloid had said, ''If you want to write your autobiography, be honest enough to state facts. It is a fact that she had an affair with my father during the making of 'Sangam' as a result of which my mother and we siblings had checked into Natraj Hotel for four and a half months.'' Gopali says she is pained to read Bali's accusation, because, ''She has also indirectly accused my father, who for decades was RK's Director of Publicity for all his films after 'Aawara' with the exception of Bobby.'' ''I was all of four, but clearly can recall accompanying my parents and singer Mukesh-ji to a five star hotel as it was my first time. Krishna-Bhabhi was wearing her trade-mark white organdy sari with the pallu covering her shoulders, her eyes red and swollen from crying. I clearly remember my parents and Mukesh-ji talking in hushed tones about things I could not then understand. But I do recollect asking my mother later why babhi was sobbing,'' Gopali elaborated.
Gopali added that Bali can deny her relation with RK until she is blue in the face, just as she denied all her other relations in the book, but the fact remains that Krishna bhabi did move into the Natraj Hotel for four and a half months after a massive showdown in Bangalore during the release of Sangam. The entire incident has been recorded in detail by my father in his biography of Raj Kapoor titled 'Raj Kapoor- The Fabulous Showman'.
''My father, the late Bunny Reuben, was part of the film industry for fifty years but throughout, he never felt the need to resort to sordid publicity stunts to tarnish somebody's reputation just so that his client could look good,'' asserted an angry Gopali.
She adds, ''Sorry, but this is just not on. Neither of the two men are alive to set the record straight, but all I can say is that even if both were alive, being gentlemen, they would have never embarrassed the woman in question by revealing the truth.'' UNI
