New Delhi, Sept 13 (UNI) Lashing out at the Centre for its affidavit in the Supreme Court denying the existence of Lord Rama in the Ramsethu issue, the BJP today said if the ruling Congress and UPA parties did not believe in the existence of the mythological character, they should stop attending 'Ramlila' and Dussehra festivals participated by millions across the country.

BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra demanded an apology from the UPA parties for the Archeological Survey of India contending before the Supreme Court that the Ramsethu near Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu was not a man-made bridge but a natural formation.

''If these parties truly believe that Lord Rama did not exist or he built the bridge to the Lanka, the capital of Ravana, they should stop attending these functions. If they don't apologise, the organisers should stop inviting the people who did not have faith in the existence of Rama,'' he said.

He said the leaders, who believee that Ramayana was a true epic and a legacy spanning across 'Bharat Bhoomi', should press people who were out to damage one of the oldest heritage and cause incalculable damage to the nature and environment.

Underlining that the affidavit was a deliberate insult to the faith and sentiments of majority Hindu community, Mr Malhotra said, ''the Government should ponder over the incalculable damage it is proposing to cause to the bridge, its environment and to the safety of millions of people residing in the coastal areas of southern peninsular region.'' Only yesterday, the Centre issued a Tsunami warning following an earthquake in the Indonesia and Andaman and Nicobar islands, he added.

''The scientists have warned of a calamity in the event of future tsunamis if the bridge is breached and the government can't turn a blind eye to the concerns of ecologists and pose a threat to the lives and properties of millions of people residing in the peninsular region,'' he said.
