Andaman to keep watch on tsunami possibility

New Delhi, Sep 13: The Union Home Ministry has asked the Andaman and Nicobar island administration to keep a vigil on the possibility of tsunami in view of another powerful earthquake that rocked the west of Sumatra island this morning.

However, no alert has been issued.

Earlier yesterday, following a 8.1 magnitude earthquake near Sumatra, the Ministry had issued a 'red alert' for the islands and advised the administration to take all precautionary measures.

The alert was later withdrawn.

However, the Ministry had also asked the administration to alert the people in the coastal areas and be in the highest state of preparedness.
