Absconding prime accused in double murder case surrenders
Sangli, Sep 13 (UNI) Absconding prime accused in the double murder case surrendered before a court here today.
Jayant Anandrao Patil who had murdered Mahesh Bhimrao Jadhav (37) and his younger brother Umesh (35), both former hockey players, on September 6 in a broad daylight at Islampur town of the district. He was absconding since then.
Patil is an activist of the NCP and ex deputy chairman of Islampur Municipal Council.
After Patil's surrender, the court remanded him to police custody till September 20, police sources said.
Earlier, police have arrested two more persons in connection with the twin murders. With Patil's arrest, the number of arrested accused has gone to 15.
On September 6, the Jadhav brothers were attacked by a gang, led by Patil, at around 1430 hrs. The gang members attacked them with an axe and later shot them dead over a land dispute, sources added.
