VHP activists disrupt road, rail traffic in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Sep 12 (UNI) Traffic across Orissa was disrupted for a few hours as VHP activists resorted to a 'Chhaka Jam' agitation as part of their national call to protest the Centre's decision to go ahead with the Sethusamudram project.

The VHP, Bajrang Dal, BJP and other affiliated activists blocked important intersections in the state capital and other important places in support of their demands.

Reports reaching here said hundreds of vehicles were stranded on various national and state highways due to the agitation. The VHP activists also brought out a rally here shouting slogans against the Sethusamudram project East Coast Railway(ECoR) sources said the 'chhaka jam' also affected services in the state forcing cancellation of an express and two passenger trains.

Some trains were also controlled at different stations for a short time in the morning as the agitators blocked train movement at various stations for a brief period.

The authorities cancelled the 8411/8412 Bubaneswar-Visakhapatnam -Bhubaneswar Inter City Express, 234A/233A Bhadrak-Cuttack-Bhadrak Passenger and 3/4CP Cuttack-Paradeep-Cuttack Passenger trains.
