Tourism contribution to revenues up 44.3 per cent in August

New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) With tourist influx on a high, the commensurate foreign exchange earnings shot up to 44.3 per cent at 659.33 million dollars in August 2007, as compared to 456.76 million dollars over the same period last year.

There has been a 26.8 per cent growth in the total foreign exchange earnings (in rupee terms) at Rs 2,694.73 crore in August this year compared to Rs 2125.47 crore during the corresponding period a year ago, according to a latest data from the tourism ministry.

The tourist inflow into the country increased by 18.3 per cent to stand at 3,60,089 in August this year, against 3,04,387 during August 2006.
