Three-member fencing team ready for world championship

Patiala, Sep 12 (UNI) India will field a three-member fencing team in the senior world fencing championship slated for September 28 to October 2 in St Petersburg, Russia.

According to Fencing Association of India (FAI) secretary-general Arun Kumar Vij, members of the team are Rashid Ahmed and Ujwal Gupta (both from J and K) in Sabre event, and woman fencer Shweta Chandalia (from Maharashtra) in Foil event.

The three fencers will undergo a ten-day coaching camp in St Petersburg from September 19 to 29 under the auspices of Federation Internationale d'Escrime, which will bear all expenses.

Mr Arun Kumar Vij will accompany the Indian team to Petersburg as head of the contingent. About ninety countries are expected to participate in the championship.
