Rally held to urge the government to halt power plant

Mysore, Sep 12 (UNI) A massive rally was held here to urge the state government to drop the proposed Rs 5500 crore thermal power plant at Chamalapura.

Prominent personalities including Jnapath laureate Dr U R Anantha Murthy, literature Devanur Mahadeva, former Deputy Chief Minister Siddramiah, former Union Minister V Sreenivasa Prasad , former ministers H Viswanath, M Shivanna, Lankesh weekly editor Gowri Lankesh, former Rangayana Director Prasanna, ACIC convenor Lakshmana, litterateurs, activists of progressive organisations, theater personalities, students and farmers from the Mandya, Chamarajanagara and Mysore districts participated in the rally Eighteen school children, who watered the plants on the dais making the beginning of the rally, chanted a slogan "stop the proposed thermal power plant, save tomorrow for us".

Speakers called upon the protestors not to give up their fight even if the government succeeds in acquiring lands from farmers at a good price.

The rally also passed a resolution urging the government to drop the project immedately and asked the farmers, citizens of the Mysore to continue the agitation untill they got the justice.
