Pollution board seals Steel and Power unit

Sambalpur, Sep 12 (UNI) The Orissa state pollution control board (PCB) authorities have sealed the SPS Steel and Power Ltd near Jharsuguda for gross violation of the pollution norms.

Official sources said the steel plant neither obtained a 'no-objection certificate' (NOC)from the PCB nor abided by any instruction.

In presence of local administration, the PCB sealed four kilns of the unit on the first day, and with the closure of two others during the day, the entire unit is totally sealed, PCB officials said.

The authorities had earlier served show-cause notices to the unit and advised it to procure 'consent-to-operation' certificate but the management of the unit did not concede to the advice.
