Monsoon turns weak in north-west region

Chandigarh, Sep 12 (UNI) Monsoon turned weak in the north-west India and only few areas in Himachal Pradesh received rain during the past 24 hours.

Punjab and Haryana had respite from wet conditions as there was no rainfall activity in the twin states since last night, according to the Weather Office here. Hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in these states in the absence of rain.

However, light to moderate rain lashed isolated areas in Himachal Pradesh where high altitude areas experienced snowfall yesterday.

Tribal areas of the state reeled under cold weather conditions following snowfall.

Rains lashed Dhundi and Solang Nala, respectively recording 5.6 mm and 5.0 mm downpour overnight, bringing a considerable fall in the temperature.

Hot and humid conditions prevailed in Chandigarh as rains eluded the city. Chandigarh recorded the maximum humidity at 85 per cent and the minimum at 42 per cent.

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and partly cloudy day in Haryana and Punjab tomorrow.
