Govt asks police, other departments to remain alert

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 12 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the Government had asked Police and other departments to remain on alert in the wake of the 7.9 magnitude powerful earthquake that rocked the Island of Sumatra near Indonesia.

Briefing Cabinet decisions here, he said government had asked all departments to take precautionay measures to meet any eventuality.

The Government had also decided to enter into an agreement with the Atomic Energy Commission to begin a School of Mathematics at Kozhikode, he said and added that Rs five crore Central assistance would be sanctioned for the institute.
