Bihar to encourage sugarcane production; training for farmers

New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) In a move to encourage sugarcane farming and improve its production in Bihar, the state government has embarked upon a massive training of its sugarcane growers under the strict guidance of agricultural scientists.

According to information received here from the Bihar Information Centre, the state government was committed to provide latest technical information to the sugarcane producers.

In the current financial year the government has already sanctioned Rs 3.20 crore under the state plan and an amount of Rs 5.15 crore was in the process of being sanctioned. Similarly, an amount of Rs 8.82 crore was also in the process of getting sanctioned under the Central plan.

Last year, under the state plan, Rs 75 lakhs were paid to the farmers as a grant for the purchase of seeds and its transportation.

An amount of Rs 1.10 crore was spent on seeds production in 550 hectares of land in the vicinity of diferent sugar mills.
