About 1800 striking labourers of NLC arrested

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Sep 12 (UNI) As many as 1800 striking contract labourers of the Neyvelli Lignite Corporation were arrested for squatting at the NLC's mine-II site, near here, today.

The agitation was part of the indefinite strike called by nearly 13,000 contract labourers of the NLC, demanding high salary and disbursement of bonus.

NLC Management sources said the strike had not affected the normal functioning of the corporation.

A meeting would be held in Chennai with representatives of the striking labourers to settle the issue, the sources said.
