Maruti signs MoU with Gujarat govt to set up driving school

New Delhi, Sept 11 (UNI) Country's leading car maker Maruti Udyog Ltd today signed a MoU with the Gujarat government to set up Gujarat Regional Automobile Training Institute at Gajadara village in Vadodara district.

''At Maruti, we believe that one of the best ways for corporates to fulfill their social responsibility is by offering their managerial skills to society. Our initiative with the Gujarat government is one small step higher,'' company's Managing Director Jagdish Khattar said in a statement.

The institute will not only provide driving training to tribal youth but also offer automobile technical training to them.

''In addition to driving training at this institute, we will also introduce short duration motor mechanic courses for tribal youth.

These will strengthen their employability,'' Mr Khattar said.

Development Support Agency of Gujarat will provide the infrastructural support and Maruti will manage and run the institute. Maruti will provide technical expertise, guidance and all services at the institute.

Several other state governments, such as Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh and West Bengal have approached Maruti to set up driving training institutes in their states.

The company has already signed a MoU with the Haryana Government for setting up two driving training institutes at Rohtak and Bahadurgarh.
