INLD seeks annulment of 1994 Yamuna Water Accord

Chandigarh, Sep 11 (UNI) The opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today asked the Haryana Cabinet to annul '1994 Yamuna Water Accord' and restoration of '1954 accord'.

Former Haryana minister Sampat Singh and INLD MP Ajay Singh Chautala said their party had always opposed the Yamuna water accord of 1994 signed by the Congress Government.

They said the INLD would support the termination of 1994 Accord if congress cabinet came up with any such proposal.

They said that following the footsteps of Chaudhary Devi Lal in 1994, INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala had led a statewide agitation against the Accord. "All 17 MLAs had resigned from the state assembly against the water accord signed by the Congress,'' they added.

The INLD leaders said if the present cabinet did not pass the resolution to terminate the water accord of 1994 and reinstate the 1954 Water Accord, it would be proved that Congress leaders and ministers were just trying to befool the people and they had no respect for the people's interests.
