Ambala, Sep 11 (UNI) Milk producers from Haryana and Punjab sent a memorandum of demands to the President and Union Agriculture Minister for lifting of ban on exports of milk produts to save the industry in the two states.

Dairy product plants in Haryana and Punjab were on the brink of closure due to wrong export policy of the Agriculture Ministry, Haryana Punjab Dairy Producers Association alleged in meeting held here today.

The meeting observed that the Union Agriculture Minister Sahrad Pawar's unilateral decision to ban the eport of milk products would ''ruin'' the state's milk product industry.

The Association alleged that the Ministry under the pressure of Casein Milk Producers Lobby, had banned the export till the end of September.

They also expressed apprehension that the ban would be renewed after expiry of the date.

Since Casein milk products are exported in bulk to the US, the lobby does not want the dairy products to be exported, they alleged.

Casein is the main protein or the 'cheesy' part of the milk, they explained.

The Association claimed that ban on export of their products had hit as many as 22 milk product units in Haryana and Punjab.

Thousands of workers would be rendered unemployed while the milk producers would suffer as they would not find any outlet for sale of their product.
