CPI(M) pledges to ''expose'' BJP's dubious role

New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Vowing to ''lay bare'' the BJP's dubious role in blocking the proceedings of both Houses of Parliament, the CPI(M) today alleged that the saffron party's real design was to mislead the people of the country on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

''The saffron party's stubbornness in repeatedly disrupting the proceedings of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha simply shows that it has something to conceal from the public. The BJP, indeed, does not want to take a specific position on the issue only to hoodwink the people of the country,'' CPI(M) Parliamentary group leader Sitaram Yechury told a news conference here.

Mr Yechury alleged the BJP acted as an ''irresponsible Opposition'' by not allowing a discussion on the matters of urgent public attention -- galloping price rise and the Action Taken Report on the Sachar Committee Report on the status of Muslims in the country.

''Though these issues along with the issue of legislation for over 370 million unorganised workers concern thousands of crores of the people of the country, the BJP did not allow a debate on them.

The BJP did not leave any stone unturned to force the two Houses of Parliament to adjourn sine die,'' he said, adding that it was the third session of Parliament in running when the saffron party had shown its ''real face''.

The saffron party did not even permit a resolution on congratulating the Indian hockey team which routed South Korea 7-2 to retain the Asian Cup last night. Only after a good amount of persuasion did it allow a homage to be paid to those killed in the Hyderabad flyover collapse last evening, he rued.

Besides, a discussion was also to take place to deliberate on the widespread shortcomings prevalent in the Rural Employment Scheme, initially set in motion in 200 districts and now extended to another 100 districts, he added.

''The BJP disrupted the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha where we got today just a sketch of the legislation for the unorganised sector. We had so many suggestions to make,'' he lamented.

He wondered what made the BJP change its mind as it first accepted the Speaker's ruling that it was beyond the competence of Parliament to ratify the nuclear pact and later stuck to its guns on the JPC demand.
