BT will earn $ 250 mln from Indian operations

New Delhi, Sep11 : The UK-based telecom major BT Group Plc today said it has set a target of 250 million dollars in revenue from its India operatiion by 2009. ''Our plans for India are well on track and we are poised to reach 250 million dollar target by 2009,'' BT India Chairman Arun Seth told reporters here.

The company also announced the increase of connecting points for its multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) infrastructure, which is the basis for high quality video and voice services over the internet. ''The company now has 14 connecting points in India, the highest number of connecting points in the country by any global service provider,'' Mr Seth said.

Six cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune will have multiple nodes. The company's network will be further extended to Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka by the end of April 2008, he added.

Mr Seth said, the special equipped nodes in Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai will help BT's media and broadcast customers in India to deliver their content to a global audience. BT India has witnessed unprecedented growth and custmer demand over the last three years with growth in bandwith of over seven times and nodes by five times, he added.
