AIKS would resort to agitation for Land Commission on Sep 24

Hyderabad, Sep 11 (UNI) The CPI-led All India Kisan Sabha in Andhra Pradesh will lay a siege to the District Collectorates in the State on September 24, demanding that the Congress Government concede the Left parties demand for the constitution of a Land Commission to deal with land-related issues.

Talking to newspersons here today, AIKS President K Ramakrishna said the stir was also to press for writing off farmers loans upto Rs one lakh. Only by easing the farmers debt burden, peasants suicide attempts could be stopped, he added.

Mr Ramakrishna said despite Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's claim that his Government was ''farmer-friendly'', the farmers in the State were in trouble due to short supply of quality inputs, including seeds, fertilisers and pesticides on the one hand and unremunerative price for their produce on the other hand.
