4 HORSE remembers the heroes of Phillora
Ludhiana, Sep 11 (UNI) The elite cavalry Regiment 4 HORSE today conducted a solemn remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the memorial of late Major Bhupinder Singh, Maha Vir Chakra, here.
The occasion marked the 42nd anniversary of the battle of Phillora, an epic tank battle during the 1965 War. The battle which had a great impact on the outcome of the war was fought gallantly by the troops of 4 HORSE.
Major Bhupinder Singh, then a Squadron Commander, had led from the front and made the supreme sacrifice while fighting for the nation.
He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra and the Regiment bestowed with the battle honour Phillora and the theatre honour Punjab.
In the 1971 Indo-Pak War, the Regiment once again showcased its gallantry, when it broke the back of Pakistan Armour in the battle of Basantar.
The regiment 4 HORSE is celebrating its 150th Anniversary of raising this year. A cycle expedition which was flagged off from the Regiment on September 6, also reached Ludhiana to attend the ceremony.
The memorial service included a ceremonial guard mounting and laying of wreaths by various serving and retired personnel of the regiment.
