Upgrade civic amenities in Hajipur: Paswan to Centre
New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has stressed the need for speedy development of the basic civic amenities in Hajipur town of Bihar which falls under his parliamentary constituency.
Mr Paswan in a letter to the Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy has pointed out that Hajipur is situated in the district headquarter of Vaishali, where many important sites connected with Buddhist and ancient Hindu religions.
The district has a population of about 20 lakh which is predominantly rural. Most of the urban population lives in Hajipur town which has a population of 1.20 lakh as per the 2001 census.
He said due its rich history, the place attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. However, despite its modern day importance, civic amenities in the town are in urgent need of improvement due to its expanding local population, migration of adjoining rural population to the town and sharp rise in the foreign tourists.
The unhygenic conditions and lack of sanitation also lead to various health problems. The drainage and the sewerage system, as also proper infrastructure for garbage disposal amongst others, need priority attention.
Mr Paswan said the Central Government may provide necessary funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Rural Mission (JNURM) or any other suitale Central schemes to create and improve the civic amenities in the town, the letter added.
