Students threaten stir against death of student at Varanasi
Imphal, Sep 10 (UNI) Student bodies of Manipur - the AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA - have threatened to agitate if action was not taken over the death of a student in a hotel in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, a few days back.
Members of the four student bodies said the student Nongmaithem Kishan from Bishenpur district, had gone to Varanasi on September 3 to appear for an examination and was staying at Mangal Lodge.
The manager of the lodge later informed the family members that the youth had allegedly committed suicide.
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh also reportedly assured the four student bodies that he would discuss the matter with the Uttar Pradesh government and seek a detailed report.
The student bodies suspected foul play and said they would wait till September 11 for a positive response from the government failing which a stir will be launched.
