Srinagar, Sep 10 (UNI) UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi cut short her visit to Kashmir and rushed back to the national capital as she is scheduled to meet Mexican President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa later today.

Speaking at the Women's Meet here organised by the Union Women and Child Development Ministry, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Ms Gandhi had to rush back to New Delhi in view of her meeting with the Mexican President at 1600 hrs.

Mr Hinojosa arrived in Delhi yesterday at the head of a large official and business delegation, comprising more than 100 members, on a four-day state visit on President Pratibha Patil's invitation.

Ms Gandhi was scheduled to address a meeting of leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) leaders before her departure to New Delhi this evening.

Thousands of women from across the Kashmir valley took part in the Meet, organised by the Central Social Welfare Board under the Union Women and Child Development Ministry.

While Mr Azad gifted a 'Samovar (traditional tea pot)' to Ms Gandhi, a Kashmiri pheron (long coat-type apparel) was also presented to her at the meet.
