Kerala: Road repair works to be over soon
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 10: Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Issac today assured the State Assembly of completing ordinary repair work on all roads in one month.
Opposing the admissibility of an adjournment motion sought to be moved by Mr K Babu (Cong) and others, the Finance Minister said administrative sanction for repair work of all PWD roads would be issued in three days and short tenders invited thereafter for speedy implementation.
The administrative sanction had already been given for repair works of various roads for Rs 110.5 crore in the last four days.
Mr Issac said funds would not be a constraint for the repair works.
Besides, maintenance of National Highways would also be taken up immediately without waiting for the Centre to sanction the amount.
He also said the government wanted to eliminate corruption in works being awarded by the PWD by taking effective steps.
Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy alleged the Left Democratic Front had failed to take effective steps, during the last 16 months, for proper maintenance of roads which had became virtual death traps.
